St. Thomas, an exotic tropical island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is the perfect place for any type of getaway. From weddings and honeymoons to shopping excursions and quick vacations, there is plenty to do on this picturesque resort island.

The Virgin Islands have a diverse culture, with historical roots in West African, Dutch, Irish, Spanish, German and Danish cultures.  Tourism gradually increased after the United States purchased the Virgin Islands from Denmark for strategic location during World War I. Today, the U.S. Virgin Islands see around two million tourists per year.

St. Thomas is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world such as Magen's Bay, Coki Point, Sapphire Beach and Secret Harbor. It boasts stunning views of the Caribbean from vantage points such as Drake's Seat–where Sir Francis Drake used to sit and observe his fleet–and MountainTop to the west , a 1,500 foot tall lookout point with a shopping complex. The affordable duty-free shopping makes the island a shopper's paradise and is one of the many draws of St. Thomas and the Virgin Islands.

At Paradise point, visitors can take a tramway 700 feet to Charlotte Amalie Harbor at the capitol of St. Thomas, Charlotte Amalie. It has many sights of natural beauty and historical buildings to visit. Blackbeard's Castle, the 99 Steps, Market Square, the Seven Arches Museum, the Government House, the Legislative Building and Fort Christian all mark must-see attractions in downtown Charlotte Amalie.

St. Thomas also has some of the best night life in the Virgin Islands. The Banana Daiquiri is a delicious drink native to the island as well as is the Cruzan Rum made in the Virgin Islands. Paradise Point and Red Hook are the two best places to go for entertainment during the night. Also, local celebrations like Carnival and French Heritage week are a sight to behold, annually drawing thousands of visitors.

Activities on St. Thomas include snorkeling, art workshops, fishing, diving, submarine rides, sailing day trips, golfing, tennis, hiking, horseback riding, whale watching, parasailing and island hopping.

St. Thomas offers all of the diversity of the U.S. Virgin Islands on one island. The Virgin Islands are frequently called "paradise" by many travelers, but only St. Thomas offers every traveler's paradise on an island just twice the size of Washington, D.C.
